Cassese, 57, a lifelong resident of Youngstown, Ohio passed away Friday, June 28 surrounded by family and friends. A host of angels, led by his daughterJaclyn Marie, lifted him to heaven.

Carmine was born on July 30, 1955 in Youngstown, the son of Joseph L. and Carmela G. Cassese.

He grew up on the South Side of Youngstown and attended St. Dominic grade school and Cardinal Mooney High Schoolbefore graduating from Ohio State University in 1977.

He married the former Patty Bires on August 26th, 1977, at St. Cyril and Methodius Church. Following graduation, hetaught Industrial Arts at Cardinal Mooney and worked for the City of Youngstown before leaving to join Youngstown State University’s Athletic Department where he worked as the Head Equipment Manager for 25 years before retiring in 2011.

In addition to Youngstown State, Carmine worked endlessly and tirelessly at his family’s restaurant, the MVR. As the third generation Cassese to serve Youngstown, Carmine gradually transformed a small family restaurant in the Smoky Hollow into a destination spot. Besides the additional dining rooms, bocce courts, or patios resulting from his passion for projects, Carmine left behind a legacy of memories resulting from his gift for storytelling. Whether at the bar or joining customers at their table, Carmine touched many people’s lives and made everyone feel like family. Even though Carmine was often going in a thousand directions, family and friends were always his top priority.

In addition to his parents, he leaves behind his loving wife Patty (Bires) Cassese; son Joseph and his wife Erica; and son Frank and his fiancée Jessica Mansfield. Carmine is survived by his sisters Theresa (Anthony) Provenzale; Carla Coristin, Gina (Patrick) Kiraly, and Lia (Bill) Stana.
