Anna P. (Olmi) DiFrancesco

October 22, 1929 ~ July 12, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, July 17, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish – St. Matthias Church, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Peter Polando officiating, preceded by a 9:15 am prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home 4221 Market St., Boardman (new location) for Anna P. DiFrancesco, 87, of Poland, who passed away Wednesday morning, July 12, 2017 with her loving family by her side.

Anna will be sadly missed, but always remembered and loved, by her family and friends, for her kindness, her generosity and strength. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She was born October 22, 1929 in the Smokey Hollow section of Youngstown, the daughter of Attilio and Angelina (Fontana) Olmi and was a lifelong area resident.

Anna was a 1948 graduate of East High School and then began her career working at Chiarnello’s Market and the Public Library.  She later worked at Southside Hospital as an assistant dietician, followed by her employment at GM McKelvey Company.   When McKelvey’s closed, she took a position with Powell Press Steel Company as a bookkeeper and retired there around 1995.

Anna was a proud homemaker and a true matriarch for her family. She was a terrific cook and baker and was known especially for all her wonderful Italian dishes and pastries. Her family and many others will miss her homemade pastas and creampuff cake along with all the holiday traditions.

Anna was a lifelong active member of St. Matthias Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, and the Altar and Rosary Society.  She was President of the St. Matthias Quilters and directed and helped with preparing for the Spaghetti Dinners for over 13 years.

Anna had many passions throughout her life. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting and traveling especially with her husband to Italy. Anna also enjoyed socializing with friends, being the wife of a Deacon, and spending time with her family.

She leaves behind her beloved husband and soulmate, Deacon Salvatore DiFrancesco, whom she married July 9, 1949 at St. Columba Cathedral.  They just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.  She also leaves behind her children, Cynthia A. (Joseph) Nuzzi of New Middletown, and Michael J. (Jennifer) DiFrancesco of Chester, Virginia; three grandchildren, Joseph M. Gabriel III of Boardman,  Briallen M. DiFrancesco, and Keaton Scales of Chester, Virginia and her great grandson, Joseph M. Gabriel IV.

Besides her parents, Anna was preceded in death by a sister Nancy Calucchia and four brothers Anthony, Urbin, Ernest and Andrew Olmi.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, July 16, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St. Boardman (new location), where a prayer service will be held at 1:45 p.m. by the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.
