David F. "Dave" Crump

Poland - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, for David F. “Dave” Crump, 78, of Poland, who passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, December 28, 2017 with his loving family by his side after a long illness.

Dave was very unique and will always be remembered and loved by his family, friends and coworkers for his generosity and sense of humor.

He was born December 22, 1939 in Youngstown, the son of Owen and Edna (Kuhns) Crump and was a lifelong area resident.

Dave was a graduate of North Lima High School and began his career with McNichols Trucking Company as a driver for over 10 years. In 1971, Dave opened Crumps Auto Service and then he incorporated into Crumps Towing and Battery Service which has provided outstanding service to the Mahoning Valley for years. Dave was also associated with Moegerle Amusements.  

Dave was a true man of faith and belonged to Calvary United Methodist Church in North Lima upon marrying the love of his life, Dolly, he also belonged to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica.

Dave was member of the Professional Towers of Ohio, the Vestibule Club and was youth director at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. He was a member with AAA for over 47 years and with AAA, received several awards for outstanding Business Service.

Dave had many passions throughout his life, but he always made his family his top priority. He enjoyed playing cards, dominos and pinochle along with gardening and camping and his favorite holiday time was Christmas.  

He leaves behind to hold onto hid precious memories his beloved wife of over 54 years the former Carmella “Dolly” Valenzisi whom he married on July 17, 1963, three children Tom (Lisa Pomaro) Crump of Boardman, Frank (Sandra) Crump of Las Vegas, Nevada and Davine (Jeff) Sickle of New Waterford, five grandchildren Stacie, Phillip, Jeffrey, Geraldyne (Dylan) and Emily, a great grandson Trenton James, two brothers Thomas (Louise) Crump of Champion and James Crump of New Waterford, a sister Nancy Ober of Solon and his right hand man Benjamin Winters along with nieces, nephews and friends.  

Besides his parents, Dave was preceded in death by a son Robert Crump and two brothers Harry and Richard Crump.   

Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St. Boardman (new location).

Everyone is asked on Thursday to meet directly at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mount Carmel, Youngstown to celebrate Dave’s mass.

Burial with Rite of Committal will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, North Lima with Pastor Renee Meggitt officiating.  

In lieu of flowers material contributions may be made in David’s name to the Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland Ohio 44514. 

On behalf of David’s, family they would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the entire staff of Hospice House along with St. Elizabeth Hospital Boardman Campus and their Respiratory team for all the care and compassion shown to them and David throughout this difficult time.
