Welcome to the memorial page for

Ersilia "Elsie" Garritano

April 16, 1921 ~ July 22, 2017 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Deep River, Connecticut – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Dr., Boardman, with Father Gerald DeLucia officiating, for Ersilia (Elsie) Garritano, 96, of Deep River, CT, who passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, July 22, 2017 surrounded by her immediate family and listening to her favorite song – Ave Maria.

Ersilia joins her beloved husband of 63 years Domenico who passed in 2011.

Ersilia was born a proud “Yankee”, on April 16, 1921 like her granddaughter in Yonkers, NY. She moved to Italy at the age of 9 months where she lived with her mother father and four siblings. She worked in her family’s Jewelry store surrounded by beautiful things, which she loved throughout her life.

At the end of World War II, Ersilia met her husband Domenico. They immigrated to the United States in 1952 and resided in Boardman, with the majority of the Garritano Family. Ersilia loved her family furiously always praising the accomplishments, kindness and loyalty of her only daughter Sandra.

She had impeccable style and taste throughout her life as seen in her beautiful wardrobe and perfectly quaffed hair. She loved to create things, from elaborate embroidery to perfectly knitted scarves; she was even an expert tailor. She enjoyed cooking the most delicious but simple meals, a talent she shared and enjoyed with both Sandra and Gillian, her granddaughter. She loved animals – especially Beau, flowers, music, dance and all the things that make this world a beautiful place.

She is survived by her daughter Sandra Garritano Greaves Ross and son-in-law Roger Ross, granddaughter Gillian Greaves Saines and her husband William Saines. As well as the many nieces and nephews, here and abroad in Italy who brought her joy throughout her life.

Ersilia will always be remembered for her generosity and kindness – there was always a seat at her table.

Following the mass, there will be a luncheon in honor of Ersilia at St. Charles Church at which time condolences may be expressed to them.

Private entombment will take place at Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman (new location).
