Giovannina "Joanne" Mediati

North Jackson – There will be a Divine Liturgy of Catholic Burial held on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at 10:00 am at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, 2759 N. Lipkey Rd., North Jackson, Ohio with Chorbishop Anthony Spinosa officiating for Giovannina “Joanne” (Colatruglio) Mediati, 74, of North Jackson, who was carried by angels to her heavenly reward on Monday morning February 5, 2018 with her loving family by her side.

Giovannina will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, daughter and most importantly, a Child of God. Giovannina had so many beautiful qualities; she was kind, considerate, and always gave more than she received.   

She was born November 9, 1943 in San Bartolomeo in Galdo, Benevento, Italy, the daughter of Raffaele and Lucia (D’Andrea) Colatruglio and came to the United States on June 13, 1955.

Giovannina was a true matriarch and loved to gather all her family and friends for celebrations while she prepared and served the food. It was always magic in the kitchen. Her family will miss all her excellent cooking and baking, especially her meatballs, homemade bread, greens and potatoes, and Easter bread, just to name a few.

She not only worked as the event coordinator and cook but was also a faithful volunteer at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon for forty years.  For those lucky enough to cross her path, not only were their bodies fed, but their souls were nourished as well. She was a Spiritual Light to everyone.

Giovannina was a very spiritual woman who had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica and the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon. She served as past president of the Rosary Group, past president of the dinner/dance committee, was a team leader for the 25 Club dinners and helped on the committee for St. Rocco’s and St. Joseph’s Feast Days. She also was a member of the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild of the former Sacred Heart Church, a member of St. Rocco Society in Hillsville, Pennsylvania, and a member of the Our Lady Mixed Bowlers League.

Giovannina had many passions throughout her life. She enjoyed flowers, Italian music, gardening, singing and dancing.   She was a beautiful woman who held her Love, Faith and Family dearest to her heart.  Her legacy will be carried on by her family and all those who knew her.

Giovannina leaves to cherish her memory, the love of her life, her husband of over 54 years, Rocco Mediati whom she married on May 18, 1963 at St. Vitus Church, New Castle, Pennsylvania, her devoted children, Rocco and Susan Mediati, Raffaele and Amanda Mediati, Marco and Antonella Mediati, Rosa and Joseph Calabria and Daniel Mohn, her grandchildren Brian, Rachel, Matthew, and Nathaniel Trail,  Gabriella, Marissa, Marina, Marco, Gianna, and Dante Mediati,  Bryce Noel, Steven German, Joseph and Maria Mohn, her great grandchildren Silas, Sierra and Grayson Trail, a sister Donatina Circelli, a brother-in-law Matteo Reino, and her sisters-in-law Maria Colatruglio, Carmella Romeo, and Giovanna Vennetti.

Besides her parents, Giovannina was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Judy Mohn, two sisters Maria Pasqualina Reino and Maria Circelli, a brother Pietrangelo Colatruglio, three brothers-in-law Pasquale Circelli, Peter Polito and Armond Vennetti, and a sister-in-law Maria and her husband Rocco Sansotta.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 9:00 am until 9:45 am, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am, all held at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, 2759 N. Lipkey Rd., North Jackson, Ohio.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman (new location).

In lieu of flowers and to honor Giovannina’s life, the family requests material donations be made to the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, 2759 N. Lipkey Rd., North Jackson, Ohio 44451.
