Louis J. Pizzuto

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, Boardman, for Louis J. Pizzuto, 91, of Liberty, who peacefully passed away at his residence on Friday, October 13, 2017 with his loving family by his side.

Louis will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his generosity, his hard work ethic and his faith.

He was born December 10, 1925 in Youngstown, the son of Nick and Josephine (Mauro) Pizzuto and was a lifelong area resident.

Lou was a 1944 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and began his employment at United Engineering as a machine operator during World War II. He also was briefly employed as a railroad locomotive fireman before being employed at Commercial Intertech for over 40 years and retired as a Jig and Fixture Maker. During his employment at Commercial, he was active in the United Steelworkers Local Union 2332 for more than 30 years. His activities in the Local Union included nearly every position in the Local including three terms as president.

Lou was a lifelong and active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, Vestibule Club and Senior Citizens. Lou was president of the Seniors for two terms and secretary for one term. He was also a charter member of the Church Parish Council, a volunteer for bingo and the spaghetti dinners and was an Adult Altar Server for funerals for which he was the coordinator for many years. In the year 2000, Rev. Msg. Michael J. Cariglio commissioned Lou to fabricate and install the time capsule located behind the main church altar. He also sealed the capsule witnessed by a few young church members along with the congregation during a 5:00 p.m. Mass and the time capsule is scheduled to be opened in 2025. 

In 1987 Lou was appointed to the Liberty Township Zoning Commission for a 7-year period and served two years as chairman. He attended many Trustees meetings during his tenure being both constructional and criticizer.  

Lou was active to organize the Commercial Intertech Retirees in 1993 and served as Charter President and continued on as president for 23 years.

Lou had many passions throughout his life. He enjoyed working with wood making projects for home, family, friends and church.

He leaves to cherish his memories, the love of his heart and his High School Sweetheart the former Dorothy Turchan whom he married July 21, 1945, his beloved and adored two daughters Josephine (John) Dyer of Newton Falls and Janet (Frank) Slovasky of Liberty, two granddaughters Melissa and Sara, two sisters Lucy Cucchiaro and Ange (Angelo) Cercone and two brothers Mike (Pat) Pizzuto and Anthony (MaryAnn) Pizzuto along with many nieces, nephews and friends. 

Besides his parents, Louis was preceded in death by a son Jerry Pizzuto and two brothers Joseph and John Pizzuto. 

Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, October 22, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St. Boardman (new location).
