Mary Ann (Sabella) Julian

August 2, 1933 ~ April 13, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Liberty – Mary Ann (Sabella) Julian, 83, of Liberty, peacefully entered eternal rest at 11:20 am on Thursday morning, April 13, 2017, with her son and grandson by her side.

Mary Ann will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her happiness, her humility, and smile.

Mary Ann was born August 2, 1933 in Youngstown, the daughter of Michael and Eleanor (LaGamba) Sabella, and grew up in the Brier Hill Section of Youngstown.

She was a graduate of The Rayen High School and was devoted to the Catholic Church, particularly to St. Anthony of Padua Church, in Brier Hill. Mary Ann volunteered for numerous activities at the church, especially as a pizza maker for the church, preparing the famous “St. Anthony’s pizza” every Friday for many years, along with its Easter Bread.

Mary Ann was employed for over 26 years with JC Penny Department Store as a floor manager, along with being a proud homemaker.

She was a true matriarch, and centered her life on her family and friends. She was always the first one to help anyone in need, and always led by example. Mary Ann’s happiest moments were when she had all her relatives together, socializing and eating all of her excellently prepared Italian dishes and desserts. Everything Mary Ann cooked and baked was homemade, from canning her vegetables from their garden, to making her own brandy. Mary Ann baked for numerous weddings throughout the Mahoning Valley and was famous for her clothespin cookies.

Her husband John A. Julian, whom she married July 11, 1953 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, died February 22, 2016.

Mary Ann leaves to cherish her memories a son, John Allen and (Fiancé Atty. Maria Fernandez) of Miami, Florida; her cherished grandson, Andrew John, of Youngstown and Hollywood Florida; a brother-in-law Anthony and sister-in-law Joan Julian; a son-in-law, Carlo Ponzio of Girard; and, many loving nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Besides her parents and husband, Mary Ann was preceded in death by a beloved daughter Toni Ann Ponzio, who passed away in November 2013, a niece Lisa Thomas, and two brothers Michael Sabella and Louis DeSabato.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 1:00 pm at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1126 Turin Avenue, in Youngstown, officiated by Father Michael Swierz and Godson, Deacon John Bartos, who was an ever-present as a caretaker and spiritual supporter to the family during this difficult time.
