POLAND - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio Jr. as celebrant, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman, for Christopher S. DeToro, 44, of Poland, who passed away Tuesday evening.

Christopher will always be remembered for his contagious sense of humor and family oriented values.

Christopher’s charisma and big-hearted nature was apparent to everyone. He was always trying to help the next one in line and willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone.

He was born May 8, 1973 in Youngstown, the son of Ralph A. Jr. and Theresa A. (LaPresta) DeToro and was a lifelong area resident.

As a teenage Christopher worked for his father at Shenango Orthopedics Center, proceeding other positions include ACI Orthopedic and Prosthetics, and Safety Supervisor for New Image Construction.  He was also owner and operator of DeToro Construction.

Christopher was a 1991 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, where he was very involved in fine arts including show choir and art. Christopher earned multiple certificates in substance abuse in the latter years of this life with plans to earn his baccalaureate degree in psychology.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica and a former member of the Knights of Columbus Immacolata Council. Christopher was a faithful volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen under Skip Barone.

Christopher enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served our country on the USS Harry and did one tour overseas. His military occupation was radioman and earned the rank of E4. Christopher received an Honorable Discharge and was awarded the following decorations for his service; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Navy Award, the National Defense Service Medal, the Flag Letter of Commendation and the Good Conduct Medal.

Throughout his life he was an avid writer, singer, nature enthusiast and actor, with being the perfect handy man that could fix just about anything that was broken.

He leaves behind to hold onto his memories, his mother Theresa DeToro of Poland, four children Sam DeToro of Struthers, Alex (Brian) McNally of Struthers, Anna DeToro of Streetsboro and Theresa DeToro of Poland, two brothers Ralph DeToro III of Poland and Joseph (Christie) DeToro of Streetsboro, a sister Nicole DeToro of Poland, two uncles Nick DiToro of Minnesota and Bill (Emily) DeToro of Poland, four aunts Marian (Dan) Shelton of Houston, Joann King of Austintown, Gigi Giannini of Austintown and Dee LaPresta of Struthers, and his beloved dog Missy.

Christopher was preceded in death by his father Ralph A. DeToro Jr., brother Jonathan P. DeToro, paternal grandparents Ralph A. Sr. (Winifred) DeToro, maternal grandparents Sam (Daisy) LaPresta and three uncles Jack LaPresta, Tom King and Chick Giannini.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman (new location).
