Elia ((Zoppoli)) Ciancone

July 9, 1926 ~ August 12, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old


There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, preceded by a 12:15 p.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, Boardman for Elia Ciancone, 91, of Canton, formerly of Youngstown, who passed away Saturday evening, August 12, 2017 with her loving family by her side

Elia will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her humbleness, generosity and impeccable fashion style.

She was born July 9, 1926 in Fontecchio, L’Aquila, Italy, the daughter of Joseph and Assunta (Cercarelli) Zoppoli and came to the United States in 1947.

Elia worked for over 39 years as a seamstress working for Strauss’s Department Store, Kauffman Department Store and retired from Moyers Pant Factory. She was also a proud homemaker and a true matriarch for her family.

Elia was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica and a former member of its St. Monica Guild and the Sons of Italy Lodge #858.

Elia had many passions throughout her life. She enjoyed Sewing and was a fantastic cook and baker.

Her beloved husband Americo Ciancone whom she married on December 2, 1950 died June 8, 1996.

She leaves behind to hold onto her precious memories a sister Ellera Molinari of Canton, a niece Laura (John) Scimia of L’Aqulia, Italy, a nephew David Fantini of New Jersey, two great nieces Venessa (Andrea) Piscitelli and Katia Scimia, a great-great niece Georgia all of Italy and a brother-in-law Gasper Fantini.  

Besides her parents and husband, Elia was preceded in death by a son Richard A. Ciancone, a brother Ennio Zoppoli and a sister Elda Fantini.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, August 18, 2017, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:10 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St. Boardman (new location).

 

Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Austintown.

 

In lieu of flowers material contributions may be made in Elia’s name to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt Carmel, Youngstown, Ohio 44505. 

 

Elia’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Mercy Hospice of Canton for all the care and compassion that was shown to them during her the time of her illness.
