Eugene Naples Obituary

BOARDMAN – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, at 1 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Dr., in Boardman, preceded by a 12:15 p.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., in Boardman, for Eugene C. “Gene” Naples, 99, who peacefully passed away Friday morning, Sept. 14, 2018.

Gene will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his smile, sense of humor, and generous personality.

Gene was born March 28, 1919, in Youngstown, the son of Joseph and Regina (Masi) Naples and was a lifelong area resident.

Gene attended East High School and then began his career working at U.S. Steel as a bricklayer. He then retired after working 35 years at General Fireproofing as a press operator.

Gene heard the call of his country and was a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he earned the rank of Private First Class. His military occupation was with the Medical Corps and he was awarded the following decorations for his service to our country: the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the ATO Medal and the American Defense Service Medal. He was awarded an honorable discharge from the Separation Point Camp Rucker on Nov. 3, 1945.

Gene was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church and the American Legion Post 565, and a former member of the ITAM on Meridan Road.

Gene had many passions throughout his life. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and taking trips to Casinos along with being an avid sports fan of football and wrestling.

His wife, the former Theresa Cataldo, whom he married on July 1, 1941, passed away after 62 years of marriage on May 16, 2002.

He leaves behind to hold onto his precious memories, his beloved two daughters, Elizabeth “Betty” (John “Jack”) Chismar and Joann (Thomas) Stolar, both of Boardman; three grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) O’Brien of Columbus, John Jr. (Kathy) Chismar of Columbus and Kelli Stolar of Key West, Fla.; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jason, Alex and Peter, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents and wife, Gene, was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Naples and three sisters, Florence Delfino, Lena Romito and Theresa Guerrieri.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, from 10 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., in Boardman.

On behalf of Gene’s family, they would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff of Shepherd of the Valley in Poland and Hospice of the Valley for all the care and compassion that was shown to them and Gene during his stay.
