Helen Kuhar Obituary

Canfield - Helen Ann (Rovnak) Kuhar, 90, passed away Peacefully on Saturday Evening, April 14, 2018 at Victoria House Assisted Living in Austintown with her two Daughters at her side.

Helen was born February 12, 1928 to the late Andrew and Rose Zajac Rovnak.  She grew up in Kinsman and Campbell and was a graduate of Campbell High School 1946 where she excelled in track and was the Head Majorette.  A little known secret is that Helen was selected to be one of TWA’s flight attendants.  She received her B. A. from Youngstown State University in 1966. Helen taught 1st thru 4th Grades at St. Christine Elementary School for 32 years before retiring. She belonged to St. Christine Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and later attended St. Michael Church in Canfield. 
 

Helen loved Interior Decorating, Shopping, Playing Cards with Friends and Restaurant Dining.  Her true passion was Travel. She enjoyed the sights and sounds of England, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, China, Hong Kong, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Mexico, Bermuda, Cruising Alaska and Heli-Hiking in Canada. She climbed down and then up the Grand Canyon on her 70th Birthday. Her favorite trip was a Safari in Kenya, Africa hot air ballooning with her daughter Michele.  Helen was a passionate San Francisco 49ers fan and has a personal brick on the Fanwalk at Levi’s Stadium.


Helen married Stephen P. Kuhar on July 23, 1950.  And is survived by her two Daughters, Stephanie Kuhar Sipusic and Michele Kuhar (Frank Slovenec), Brother-in-Law Leo Kruise, and nieces: Judy Kulik Davis (Bob), Margie Kulik Kale (David), Ruthie Kulik Reda (Santo), Andrea Kulik Hrycyk (Nick), Susan Kruise McIlrath, Marilyn Kuhar (Jerry Sheehan), Jo Ann Muter-Smith, Marianne Kuhar La Rosa (Joe),   Lori Rovnak  and nephew Mark Rovnak (Susie)  and ex son-in-law Bob Sipusic, and the many friends who are left to treasure her memory.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Stephen P. Kuhar, a sister Anna Mary Rovnak, brother Mike Rovnak, niece Linda Rovnak, and (5) sisters-in-laws and (3) brothers-in-laws.

There will be a Memorial Service held on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from noon until 3:00 p.m. at the Bradford Greene Condo Club House, 4300 Westford Place, Canfield.

In lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be forwarded to the family for a Foundation being set up in Helen’s name.  

Special thanks to her Loving Caregiver, Mary Gregory, who became a member of the Family and mom’s third daughter. Special appreciation to Patty Armstrong, Jill Cholensky, Jean Anderson, Dr. Robert Wetzel, Dr. Charles Wilkins and Dr. Ken Uchino.

Thank you to the staff, nurses and aides of Victoria House and Executive Director, Danielle Russo for their affectionate and warm- hearted care.  Much appreciation to Hospice of the Valley for their invaluable assistance.
