James Evans Obituary

Boardman – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Charles Church, 7345 Westview Dr. Boardman, with Father Gerald DeLucia officiating, for James Walter “Jim” Evans, 65, of Boardman, who passed away peacefully Saturday evening, December 1, 2018 with his family by his side.

Jim will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for always being willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need along with the way he could fix anything. He was known as “Mr. Fix It”.

He was born January 4, 1953 in Youngstown, the son of James J. and Mary L. (Skarbek) Evans and was a lifelong area resident.

Jim graduated from Youngstown State University in 1977 with his Associates Degree in Business Administration.

He was employed as a crane operator from 1971 until 1981 with Standard Slag and then he earned his Stationary Engineers License. Jim worked in the maintenance department for Liberty Local Schools until his retirement in 2011.

Jim was a member of St. Charles Church and its Knights of Columbus Council 11915. He was active in the Boy Scouts Troop 46, where he volunteered with summer camp, the canoe trips and going camping at “the farm”.

He had many passions throughout his life. Jim was very talented at wood working and making Brandy to give to relatives and friends. He also had a green thumb and enjoyed working in his garden, especially growing garlic, which he would make the best garlic powder out of.

Jim married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, the former Diane Nicalek on October 4, 1975 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. They shared 43 wonderful years together.

Besides his wife, Jim also leaves behind to hold onto his precious memories his three children Krystyne (Jason) Douglass of Huntsville, Alabama, Kaylene (Mark) Winston-Galant of Clarkston, Michigan and James (Kristina) Evans of Los Alamos, New Mexico, a brother Walter (Tricia) DeBald and his best buddy Choc-O (his chocolate Lab).

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and father and mother-in-law Alexander and Mary Nicalek.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, from 10:00 am until 10:50 am in the gathering space at Saint Charles Borromeo Church, Boardman.

Entombment will take place at Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown.
