Welcome to the memorial page for

John L. Semivan

January 20, 1951 ~ July 27, 2017 (age 66) 66 Years Old

Boardman:  There will be a prayer service on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 9:15 am at Rossi Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street in Boardman (new location), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Saint Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Avenue in Youngstown with Fr. Bernard M. Timothy, O.P. officiating for John L. Semivan, 66, who, per his wishes, passed away Thursday evening at home with family.

Born January 20, 1951 in Youngstown, John is the devoted son of the late John T. and Rita M. (Pelopeda) Semivan. After graduating from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1969 and later, with an M.S. from Youngstown State University, he decided to build his own simple and lovely life within the town in which he grew up. To follow, he worked tirelessly for 37 years in the Blood bank at both Southside and Northside Hospital to take care of the ones he loved so very much.

After years of spreading magic about everyone he encountered, the kind and brilliant John has decided to continue his journey onward, bidding a fond farewell to this earth and is sailing from the western shores to join the elves, finally closing the book on his search for peace. He has kept a selfless and watchful eye on his family, and will continue so, as his proud and dear wife, Miss Mary, along with his two proteges, Jeanne Deedle and Raina-Roo, who still have work to be done.

Luckily, John had allies in many areas. Particularly, his two brothers, James A. (Deborah) Semivan of Alexandria, Virginia and Jerry E. (Suzanne) Semivan of Poland; and his sister, Rita M. (Frank) Spirato of Jacksonville, Florida. Last, but certainly not least, is his confidant and dearest friend, Mark Cerimele, with fondness and brotherhood extended to Jerry and Chris Cerimele. In the wisest of words written by J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Road goes ever on and on…”

Those who wish to attend the closing chapter of John’s adventures may join his family on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 4 to 7 pm at Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street in Boardman (new location) and on Wednesday, August 2, from 8:30 am until a brief and warm prayer service at 9:15.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that material tributes be made in John’s name to Saint Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44507 or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
