Virginia "Ginny" (Hudran) Bakes

Youngstown:  Virginia “Ginny” Bakes, 73, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle COPD on Friday, April 20, 2018 at University Hospital with her daughter, Rhonda and son-in-law, Sam, who never left her side.

Virginia, known by her family and friends as “Ginny” was born February 8, 1945 in Youngstown, the daughter late John and Ruby (Cyphert) Hudran. 

She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1964 and worked for Gorant Candies retiring after 25 years of service.

Ginny was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her daughters, Monica and Rhonda and her grandchildren, Haley and Sammy. Ginny was also a fabulous cook and her family will miss her wonderful beef soup, stuffed cabbage, and city chicken. Learning the art of canning from her mother and mother-in-law Ginny was a master. Known for her stewed tomatoes, beets, salsa and hungarian peppers.

Ginny had many passions throughout her life. She enjoyed working in her garden and doing yard work. Ginny also loved scratch off lottery tickets and the slot machines at Mountaineer along with attending her monthly “Tuesday” meeting of the retirees from Gorant Candies.

Ginny is survived by two daughters, Rhonda (Sam) Gianfrancesco of Boardman, Monica Bakes of Poland; two grandchildren Haley and Sammy; a sister, Olive (Dave) Garver of Florida; a brother, John (Karen) Hudran of New Middletown; several nieces and nephews and her trusted and beloved dog, Callie.

Besides her parents, Ginny was preceded in death by her twin sister Veronica Russ and brother-in-law, Richard Russ. 

Per Ginny’s requests there will be no calling hours and funeral services. Private burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman. 

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at University Hospital of Cleveland for the love, care and support that they gave Ginny and her family at this time. 

In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made in Virginia’s name to Animal Charity, 4140 Market St., Youngstown, Ohio 44512.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street (new location) in Boardman.
