CANFIELD - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio Jr. as celebrant, preceded by a 9:10 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Alex Palombo, Sr. who was re-united with his loving wife of 51 years, Antoinette, on Wednesday morning while surrounded by his devoted family. He was born in Youngstown on May 13, 1920, the son of Patsy and Margaret (Santillo) Palombo. Alex graduated from East High School in 1938. He served as a Staff Sargent in the United States Air Force during World War II. After serving his country dutifully, Alex worked for the Youngstown Tire Company and Plaza Lumber Company where he was a member of the Carpenter's Local Union 171for 47 years. Alex was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Youngstown throughout his life. He served as an Usher for 40 years and managed the then parish Bingo Association for 30 years. Alex was the President of the parish St. Vincent de Paul Society for 18 years, served on the Parish Council for 28 years and was a member of the Vestibule Club, Holy Name Society and Senior Citizens Club. He leaves to cherish in memory his two sons, Patsy (Sheila) Palombo of Canfield and Alex Palombo, Jr. of Boardman; a daughter, Dorothy Bukovi of Canfield; seven grandchildren, Dawn Marie, Alex III, Anthony, Jason, Kevin, Angela and Brent; four great grandchildren, Bryce, Brandon, Liliana and Vincent; a sister Margaret (Dominic) Greco of Arizona and a brother, Felix (Joan) of Columbus. Alex was preceded in death by his loving wife, Antoinette Calipare Palombo, in 2005, two sisters, Christine (Tootsie) Guerrieri and Rachel Magyar, as well as a brother Louis. Friends may call on Friday, March 27, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home 4700 Market St., Boardman. Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, where military honors will be held by the great men from the Trumbull County American Legion .
