Obituary

Poland – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Poland with the Rev. Msgr. William Connell officiating, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Amedeo Chiovitti, 79, of Poland, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 9, 2014 from an apparent heart attack at his residence. Amedeo will always be remembered and loved for his kindness, generosity and passion for life. He was born on November 3, 1934 in Boiano, Campobasso, Italy to Giuseppe and Carmela (Pitoscia) Chiovitti. Amedeo moved to the United States in 1955, accompanying his mother, to pursue a better life and future. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1958, and served in artillery services until he was honorably discharged in 1960. Amedeo worked for the A.P. O'Horo Construction company, and had a long career with P&LE Railroad. He was member of St. Elizabeth Parish in Campbell until its closing and was a current member of Holy Family Parish in Poland. He was a member of the St. Anthony's Bocce League playing for the Pro Quality Team, and belonged to the Mahoning Sportsman Gun Club. He was an avid sportsman, who was happiest when he was with his family or outdoors. Amedeo married Pierina Colalillo on September 15, 1957, spending 56 wonderful years together. He leaves her, and his children Lina Lewis (Don), son Joseph Chiovitti, his beloved grandson and best friend Christopher Lewis a sister Carolina Tenaglia, of Italy, two sisters-in-law Carmela Chiovitti of Campbell and Libera Chiovitti of Rome, Italy, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Giovanni and Michele Chiovitti, a sister and brother-in-law Anglina (Cosmo) Iamurri and a brother-in-law Fiore Tenaglia. Friends may call on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Entombment will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens, Canfield where Amedeo's service to his country will be recognized by the great men from the Trumbull County American Legion.
