Obituary

Boardman - Anna Marie (Haus) Creighton, 83, of Boardman, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 24, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Anna will always be remembered, missed and loved by all her family and friends. She was born July 14, 1928 in Youngstown, the daughter of Ralph and Magdelina (Kist) Haus. Anna was a 1947 graduate of North High School and was a devoted homemaker. Her love for children inspired her to become an Easter Seal Angel in the 1960's. During her years at Easter Seals, Anna witnessed the struggle parents had transporting their children to school. This also was the case for many adults who needed the center's rehabilitation services. This need prompted Anna to begin a two year crusade to raise funds to purchase a bus for these families. In 1969, Anna wrote to Betty Crocker for permission to collect coupons (box tops) for cash, and told them she needed around $8,000 dollars. She received a reply that she would have to collect 1.6 million coupons. She and her family took up the task with enthusiasm and dedication that only love could explain. With the communities support, she was able to collect the required amount to purchase a brand new van for the Easter Seals Center. In 1971, Anna was honored by the Easter Seals as the "Most Dedicated Volunteer of the Year". Her husband, Leo P. Creighton, whom she married January 15, 1953 died November 6, 2004. Left behind to grieve her loss but rejoice in being part of her life are her four children, Ralph M. (Sherry) Creighton of Columbiana, Kevin G. (Tina Marie) Creighton of Boardman, John F. Creighton of Atlanta, and Kathy A. (Jeff) Rober of Boardman, seven grandchildren Jonathan, Jacqueline, and Ryan Creighton, Jeffrey (JT) Rober, Michele Rober, Christian Creighton and Desiray Creighton and a sister Carolyn Deraway of Michigan. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters Helen Law and Susan Cowden, and a brother Joseph Haus. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.
