Youngstown - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Luke Church, Boardman, with Father Gerald DeLucia officiating, preceded by a 9:15 am prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, Boardman for Anthony S. "Tony" Cardarelli, 86, of Youngstown, who passed away Monday afternoon, August 15, 2016 with his loving family by his side. Tony will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his knowledge of sports and sense of humor. He was born December 26, 1929 in Youngstown, the son of Bernard & Philomena (Popio) Cardarelli and was a lifelong area resident. Tony was a proud 1948 graduate of East High School where he excelled and was a 4-year letterman in football along with being a 2-year letterman in baseball. He continued his football career at Heidleburg College in Tiffin, Ohio and graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. Tony was inducted in 2002 to the East High Hall of Fame for his football career. Tony was a man that believed in hard work and dedication throughout this life. He started his career with the Youngstown Water Department for 3 years, then worked with Lynn Ambulance, was a manager trainer for J.C. Penny Department Store and was a manager of Dom Perry Tailor Shop. For 6 years Tony, sold insurance for Western & Southern Insurance Company and was a salesman for Trophy Sports. Following his passion for sports, Tony continued as a salesman for L & R Sporting Goods where he then became the owner/operator for 7 years. He then retired in 2005 after 28 years of service as a salesman for Hearn Paper Company. Tony was a member of St. Luke Church, the Eastside Vagabond Club, the Fruit Street Reunion and the Youngstown Morra League where he held the position of Padrone (Captain) for many years. In 2014, Tony received the honor of being inducted into the Morra Hall of Fame. He had many enjoyments throughout this life. He looked forward to playing Morra at the Georgetown and festivals, socializing with the East High School Breakfast Club and spending time with his family, especially on his favorite holiday which was Christmas. Tony was so proud of all his grandchildren and never missed any of their sporting events or activities. He was also a huge sports fan always rooting on his favorite teams the Cleveland Indians and Browns, Youngstown State University and Cardinal Mooney High School, but he loved above all The Ohio State University. Tony admired and followed his friend Jim Tressel throughout his career as a coach for Youngstown State University and The Ohio State University. He leaves behind to hold onto his precious memories his wife of over 63 years the former Eleanor "Jolly" Ciolli whom he married May 16, 1953 at Sacred Heart Church, three children Daniel "Dan" Cardarelli of Boardman, Jennie (Don) Sebastian of Columbus and Diane (Bob) Carbon of Canfield, seven grandchildren Lisa (Jason) Beddigs, Lucia (Jim) Fish, Danielle Cardarelli, Stefanie Sebastian, Alyssa (Matt) Chmura, Bobby Carbon and Marissa Carbon and a brother Bernard (Barbara) Cardarelli of Struthers along with nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Tony was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Cardarelli. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Friday morning, August 19, 2016 from 8:30 am until 9:15 am all at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home 4700 Market St., Boardman. Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.
