Obituary

Boardman - Anthony L. "Tony" Knez, 88, of Boardman, passed away peacefully with his loving wife Ellen by his side on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Assumption Village. Anthony was born June 2, 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Nicholas and Mary (Stefanic) Knezevich. Tony was a big man in many ways. He was a "suit and tie" kind of guy, and his tall handsome frame was perfectly suited for the impeccable outfits he wore during his many years as the manager of Hughes and Hatcher clothing stores in Pittsburgh, PA, Youngstown, OH and Milwaukee, WI. That same professional appearance served him well in his second career in real estate development first with, the Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation, then Simon, Kutlick & Platz and finally with Cocca Real Estate. His no-nonsense business acumen always was tempered with a ready sense of humor. In spite of his success, Tony never forgot his humble roots in Coverdale, PA, where he grew up with his sister Patty and his brothers Nick and Dan. After his service in the United States Navy as an Aviator during World War II, he returned to Pittsburgh where he enjoyed many evenings with his friends at the Local VFW. Tony has left behind a treasure chest of fond memories for his family particularly his daughter Nancy Rector and her family (husband Don, children Kate, Rachel, and Ben) of Pickerington, Ohio, and his son Tony and his family (wife Jill and sons Lucas, Jacob, and Cameron) of Poland. He enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren. His magic tricks are family legends. Tony was less than one month shy of his 89th birthday when he succumbed to congestive heart failure that affected him in the last years of his life. In addition to his wife of 46 years Ellen, daughter Nancy, and son Tony along with their families, Tony is survived by his brother Dan (Phyllis) Knezevich of Pittsburgh as well as his sister Patty (Art) Sennett of Potsdam, New York, sister-in-law Lavonne Knezevich of Washington, Pennsylvania and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Tony brought fun and happiness to all their lives and to the lives of many others. He will be remembered as a good friend and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Nick Knezevich. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, Ohio. Private burial will take place on Friday May 16, 2014 at the National Cemetery of Allegheny, Bridgeville, PA, where military honors will be held by the great men of the United States Navy and the South Hills Veteran Honor Guard. Anthony's family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at the Assumption Village for all their kindness and excellent care.
