Obituary

Boardman - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Dr., Boardman, with Father Philip Rogers officiating, preceded by a 9:15 am prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Atty. Albert J. Ortenzio, 89, of Boardman, who peacefully passed away on Sunday evening, April 17, 2016. Albert will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his honest, caring and professional personality. He was born November 18, 1926 in Campbell, Ohio the son of Antonio and Angelina (Sebastiani) Ortenzio. Albert graduated at the age of 16 from Campbell Memorial High School in 1942 and then attended Youngstown College for 2 years. When Albert turned 18 he then enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country during World War II. While serving in the U.S. Army he was routed to Okinawa and then switched to Signal Corps. He was in charge of signal equipment on the island. Albert earned the rank of Tec 4 and received the following decorations for his service to our country; the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Award. Albert received an Honorable Discharge on December 7, 1946 at the separation center Ft. Sheridan Illinois. Upon his discharge from the Army, Albert then completed his studies at Youngstown College earning his Bachelor's Degree. He knew his vision of becoming an Attorney so then attended the University of Michigan Law School using his GI Bill and graduated in February 1951. Albert began his career as deputy clerk in the Mahoning County Probate Court under the late Judge Clifford M. Woodside. Albert then decided it was time to go into private practice with his partner the late Atty. Warren Pritchard began in downtown Youngstown and then about 25 years ago Albert moved his office to Canfield where he practiced law up until his passing on Sunday. Albert has been a member of the Mahoning County Bar Association since 1951 and a member of the Ohio State Bar Association. He served on the Mahoning County Board of Trustees and was President from 1975 - 1976 and he also served as Chairperson of the Mahoning County Bar Association Courts and Inquiry Committees. In 2014 Atty. Ortenzio received the highest honor of the Bar Association the Professional Award. Albert was a strong supporter of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley, the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Beiting Appalachian Mission Center. Albert had many enjoyments throughout his lifetime, but his great passion has always been all of Michigan sporting events. He has held season tickets for Michigan football games for over 50 years and they are located directly on the 50 yard line. In past years prior to NCAA, Albert would even help do some recruiting for young men and woman to attend a great University for academics and sports. His wife the former Eunice M. Vitullo whom he married June 2, 1951 at St. Charles Borromeo Church passed away on February 5, 2009. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories a daughter Jo-Lynn Ortenzio with whom he made his home, a son Joseph Ortenzio of Forest Hills, New York, two sisters Virginia (Tony) Chiarello of Boardman and Barbara Ann DeTallo of Poland, a brother Sonny (Evelyn) Ortenzio of Canfield and a sister-in-law Olga Ortenzio of Campbell along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents and wife Albert was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law Stella (Samuel) Jordon, a brothers Joseph Ortenzio, a brother and sister-in-law Patsy (Janet) Ortenzio and a brother-in-law Rocco DeTallo. Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Entombment will take place at the Resurrection Cemetery, Austintown with full military honors provided by the great men of the Trumbull County American Legion.
