Youngstown - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel, Youngstown, for Carmella "Carmel" Maria Leonelli, 91, of Youngstown, who passed away peacefully with her family at her side, at Hospice House in Boardman on Monday, January 5, 2016. Carmel was born April 5, 1924 in Youngstown, Ohio, daughter of Louis and Mary Cannatti. Carmel was a 1944 graduate of East High School. She was a lifelong resident of the area. Carmel was married in 1947 to Martin Leonelli, who preceded her in death in 2009. In addition to her parents and her husband, Carmel was also preceded in death by her son Phillip Leonelli, her brothers Rocky, Jim, Joe, Dominic, Phillip and Louis Cannatti, her sisters Liz Safaric and Nancy Simione and her son in law Mario Gentle. Carmel worked for Republic Rubber and Isaly's. She also helped manage Leonelli and Son's Concrete Co., the family's business. Carmel was a devote Catholic and member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica. She volunteered at Saint Dominic and later at Saint Mathias. She was proud of her Italian heritage. She loved gardening and spent endless hours on her vegetable and flower gardens at her home. She was devoted to her family and found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Margaret Thomas of Florida and Antionette Zamary of Youngstown. She will be deeply missed by her children Lou (Cheryl) Leonelli of Youngstown, Marty Leonelli of Youngstown, Tom (Carrie) Leonelli of Youngstown, Bob Leonelli of Youngstown, Sharon Gentile of Canfield, Bill (Shari) Leonelli of Boardman, and Dominic (Beverly) Leonelli of Boardman; her grandchildren Eric Leonelli of Uniontown, OH, Sara Leonelli of Boardman, Renee Aiezza of Florida, Christy Lynn of California, Lori Parry of Struthers, Maria Leonelli of Youngstown, Robert McMillen of New York, Ashley Leonelli of New York, Gino and Anthony Gentile of Canfield, Kaitlyn Leonelli of Boardman, Rick Zellers of Youngstown, Dominic Leonelli of New York and Rachel Leonelli of Boardman as well as her 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
