Obituary

BOARDMAN - Carmella Farris, 83 passed away peacefully in the arms of her loving sons Saturday evening at Vista Center of Boardman after an extended illness. Carmella was born Feb 7, 1930, in Youngstown, a daughter of Felix and Edith (Labato) Massaro, and had been a lifelong Youngstown and Boardman resident. Carmella attended South High School where she was elected to the National Honor Society. She married the love of her life, Edward, on March 28, 1951, just before he left to serve in the Korean Conflict. Carmella had a strong Catholic faith and a special devotion to St. Jude. She was dedicated to taking care of her husband and family. She was a courageous protector of her family and the most loving individual in the world. She expressed her love sincerely and often to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carmella was a hard worker and a very active person. She had great pride in maintaining an immaculately clean and beautiful home. Her faith, her work ethic and her values were an inspiration to her three sons. A fan of Cardinal Mooney football since the early 70's, when her son was on the team, Carmella never missed a home game until she was not well enough to attend. At the games, she would bring candy for everyone, cheer loudly and secretly pray the rosary that was hidden in her purse if Mooney was behind. She listened to away games at home on the radio and cheered just as loudly. Carmella is survived by two siblings, Edward Massaro of Poland and Rosemary Housteau of Boardman. She will be greatly missed by her sons, Edward Jr. (Phyllis), George (Marie) and John (Laura); her six grandchildren, George, Edward III, Nicholas, Anthony (Nicole), John and Victoria; and her two great-grandchildren, Nico and Ava. Besides her parents, Carmella was preceded in death by her husband Edward, her brothers Dominic Pontillo and Anthony Massaro and her younger sister Regina. The Farris family would like to say a very special thank you to the loving and caring staff of Vista Center of Boardman. You are very special people who did for our mother what we could not.
