Carrie "Grandma
Reigle" (Rizzi) Reigle
October 24, 1917 – April 5, 2015
Niles - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 381 Robbins Ave., Niles, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio Jr. officiating, preceded by a 9:10 am prayer service held at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Rd., Warren, for Carrie (Rizzi) Reigle, 97, of Niles, who passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015. Carrie was born October 24, 1917, in Niles, the daughter of Vincenzo and Angelina Maselli Rizzi, and was a lifelong area resident. Carrie graduated from Niles High School in 1935. In 1960, Carrie graduated from the Choffin School of Nursing and became a nurse. She worked as a nurse at North Side Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit for 22 years, retiring in 1983. Carrie, as many people know, could not stay in retirement long and went back to nursing in 1984 at Shepard of the Valley Nursing Home in Niles. She retired from Shepard of the Valley Nursing Home in 1996. Carrie decided she still had too much to give to the profession, so in 1996 she went back to nursing with Dr. Pokabla at his office in Howland. Carrie would work part-time for Dr. Pokabla until 2002, finally retiring after 40 years of nursing at the age of 84. Carrie decided at that time to begin lovingly taking care of her first great-grandchild, while her parents were at work. Carrie was very proud of her nursing career and late in life always said she would go back if she could. As proud as Carrie was of her nursing career, she took even greater joy and pride in her family and friends. Carrie was known to many as "Grandma Reigle." Her quick wit, fiery personality, work-ethic, stories, passion for sports and attending her great-grandchildren's sporting events, watching the game show network, and going to the casino was a large part of who she was. Carrie was a master with her Italian cooking and was often called upon for her recipes. Nothing made Carrie happier than having friends and family sitting around her kitchen table, enjoying a delicious meal that she had cooked. Carrie was also known for her gardening, canning, washing clothes, pizzas, and Easter bread. As late as the fall of 2014, she was still making her delicious pizzas to be sold at the Niles Girl's Soccer concession stand. Her husband, Sam "Kinger" Reigle, whom she married on October 19, 1937, passed away on Christmas Day in 1980. She leaves a son, Richard Reigle, with whom she made her home; a grandson Sam Reigle and his wife Lori; and two great - grandchildren, Isabella and Sammy. Carrie's great - grandchildren were a constant source of love and pride. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Sam and Anthony Rizzi and Joseph Rich; sisters, Elizabeth Mitolo, Mary Pipino, Lucille Fio Rino, and Angie Martin; and several nephews, cousins, and her dear friend Jane Logar. Friends and family may call on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Rd., Warren. Burial will take place at St. Stephen Cemetery, Niles. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. The family would like to thank MVI Hospice, The Hope Center, Dr. Ciletti and his office staff, her close friend Joan Hall, niece Mary Lee Wilson, and Janice Semple for all of their great care, compassion, companionship, and prayers in her last days.
