Youngstown- There will be a funeral service held on Thursday July 28, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home 4700 Market St. Boardman with Pastor Jerry Hunt officiating, for David F. "Big Dave" Shaffer who passed away July 23,2011 at his residence, with his loving family by his side. Big Dave will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for all the time they spent together especially with his grandson Gavin. He was born October 8, 1948 in Youngstown, Ohio a son of Leo and Ethel (Bucci) Shaffer and was a lifelong area resident. Dave was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and worked at various Steel Mills thru out his career. He was a member of the VFW Post 93 on South Ave. and a lifetime member of the East Side Civics. Dave enjoyed playing cards with his friends, coaching little league baseball for over 10 years, and was a avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife the former Lesley Rucker whom he married on October 7, 1972, two sons David and Troy Shaffer both of Youngstown; a brother Dennis Shaffer of Youngstown, a sister Linda Durkin of Youngstown, a grandson Gavin Shaffer, along with his beloved pet dog Drama. He also leaves his long time best friend Nuch and Big bird, along with his second family Sam, Squeaky, Pee Wee, and Melvin. He was preceded in death his parents. Friends may call on Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.
