Obituary

Youngstown - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio Jr. officiating, preceded by a 9:10 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Dick F. Fitzwilliams, 89, of Youngstown, who passed away Friday evening, May 9, 2014 with his loving wife by his side. Dick will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends. He was born September 8, 1924 in Youngstown, the son of Thomas and Martha (Maley) Fitzwilliams and was a lifelong area resident. Dick attended Woodrow Wilson High School and was a proud United States Navy Veteran serving in World War II. He was on the flag unit Air Force Atlantic Fleet USS Bogue (CVE-9) and was awarded the following decorations and citations; the American Area Ribbon, the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the European Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation with 1 Blue Star. Dick was employed for over 22 years at General Motors Lordstown Plant in the cushion department and retired in 1987. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles 3298, the St. George Croatian Club, the Mahoning Valley Gaelic Society and the American Legion Post 301. Dick had many enjoyments in life but some he treasured most were playing cards with family and friends, gardening and watching TV especially the Family Feud Game Show. Dick leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his wife of over 67 years, the former Yolanda Berarducci whom he married on July 29, 1946, a daughter Kathy (Michael) Salomonson of Denver CO, a son Thomas (Tina) Fitzwilliams of Phoenix, AZ, eight grandchildren Michael (Melissa) Salomonson, Matthew (Lyndee) Salomonson, Diane (James) Montoya, Steven (Romaine) Salomonson, Thomas (Heather) Fitzwilliams, Toni, Troy and Tia Fitzwilliams, nine great grandchildren Austin, Devin, Eden, Emersen, Hailey and Michael Joshua Salomonson, Zachary Fitzwilliams and Ciera and Darius Salomonson, a great-great grandchild Arlando Romero, two brothers-in-law Victor Berarducci and Joseph (Betty) Berarducci and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents Dick was preceded in death by a brother Joseph Fitzwilliams and three sisters Rita Toke, Martha Henick and Annie Froman. Friends may call on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. by the Fraternal Order of Eagles 3298 and at 7:30 by the American Legion Post 301. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, where full military honors will be held by the great men from the Trumbull County American Legion.
