Obituary

Austintown – Dolores Rose (Vukovich) Fusillo, 96, of Austintown, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, September 7, 2026, at Assumption Village Nursing Home, with her loving family by her side.

Dolores was born January 12, 1930, in Youngstown, the daughter of Margaret Vukovich and George Schuller, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.

A proud homemaker, Dolores later retired from Western Reserve Health Center. Her family was always her greatest priority, and she was the true matriarch of her family. Nothing brought her greater joy than being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was the loving heart of her family and took great pride in the life they shared together.

Dolores was an excellent cook and baker, and her home was a gathering place for family and friends. Sunday spaghetti and meatball dinners were a cherished tradition, as were the holidays when everyone gathered around her table to enjoy her traditional homemade specialties, wonderful food, and festive celebrations. The memories created around Dolores’ table will forever remain among her family’s most treasured memories.

She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica. Dolores also enjoyed listening to the Italian Hour and Polka Hour on Sunday mornings and especially loved dancing to polkas.

Dolores married the love of her life, Joseph Charles Fusillo, on August 25, 1949. Together, they shared more than 56 years of marriage until his passing on April 11, 2006.

Dolores leaves behind to cherish her precious memory her children, Kathleen Schiff, Marlene (Lenny) DePinto, Deborah Kovacs, and Matthew (Barbara) Fusillo; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren, all of whom adored her dearly.

Dolores will be remembered for her unconditional love, generous spirit, devotion to her family, and the joy she brought to every family gathering. She was the loving heart of her family, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her grandparents and her son-in-law Rocco Kovacs Sr.

Family and friends may pay their respects to Dolores on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.

A prayer service will be held at 12:20 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mount Carmel, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. John Zuraw, J.C.L., V.G., as celebrant.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.

Dolores’ family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Tedjeep Singh, Dr. Charles Wilkins, and Dr. David Hoffman for their compassion and care throughout the years.
