Obituary

Youngstown - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio Jr. officiating, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Dominic A. "Dom" Butch, 83, of Boardman, who passed away early Sunday morning, March 9, 2014 with his loving family by his side. Dom will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his kindness, work ethic and wonderful personality. He was born April 2, 1930 in Youngstown, the son of William and Edith (Mashorda) Butch and was a lifelong area resident. Dom was a 1949 graduate of East High School and a proud United States Army Veteran serving during peace time. Upon being honorably discharged, Dom continued representing his country as a very active member of the Captain Charles Marino Post 3 of the Italian Americans War Veterans joining Post 3 in 1952. He then held every office within the Post and was elected in 1961 as the Ohio commander and in 1976 was elected as the National Commander. At the department level as National Commander he was honored and received four trophies for the group's membership contest. At the state level while holding office, Dom oversaw the creation of three new posts along with keeping the state membership at its highest in the nation. As National Commander in 1977, Dom had the honor of paying tribute to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by placing a wreath in red, white and green colors representing the Italian flag at the Tomb. He was owner and operator for over 35 years of W. S. Butch & Sons Contractors. After selling his business, he was employed by the Mahoning County Sanitation District and retired after 10 years. Dom was member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, The Sons of Italy, and a former member and officer of the Amerital Club. Butch's enjoyments in life were bowling, gardening, wood working and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time in the kitchen with his wife Evelyn. They enjoyed canning peppers and making their famous pizzelles which everyone will miss. His wife the former Evelyn Nolfi whom he married April 21, 1956 died November 1, 2006 just six months after celebrating 50 years of marriage. Dom leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories two daughters Patricia (John) Gorsky and Lynne (Robert) Jones, both of Boardman, four grandchildren Tricia Gorsky of Chicago, Jenna (Jason) Colatruglio of North Lima, and Jamie and Jaclyn Jones of Boardman, and a brother Michael (Patricia) Butch of Youngstown. Dom was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Friends may call on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown with full military honors provided by the great men of the Trumbull County American Legion.
