Boardman - There will be a Mass of Christina Burial held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Church, Boardman, with Father Michael Marcelli officiating for Donald M. Tankovich, 76, of Boardman, who passed away early Wednesday morning July 25, 2012 from complications from Alzheimer's disease. Don was born March 21, 1936 in Youngstown, the son of Steve and Anna (Verlenich) Tankovich and was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of East High School.Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Following the Reserves, Don opened his own business, Northside TV Service from which he retired from at the age of 65. After retirement, Don worked for several years at Timken Latrobe Steel. Don was affectionately known by his friends and family as "Big D" and enjoyed many things throughout his life. He and his wife Catherine owned a hunting cabin in Tionesta, Pa, that he designed and built with the help of his family and close friends. He especially loved taking his family on their annual vacation to the shore of North Carolina. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his wife of over 56 years the former Catherine Fusillo whom he married September 29, 1956, three daughters Angie Laboy (Ron Freedy Jr.) of Boardman, Diane Tankovich of Columbus and Carla (Mike) Welch of Boardman, a son Don (Linda) Tankovich of Canfield, and five grandchildren Andrew Laboy, Dana Laboy, Michelle Welch, Angela Tankovich, and Donald Tankovich. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son Stephen Tankovich and three sisters Dorothy Thomas, Katherine Dota, and Mary Tankovich.
