Boardman - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke Church, Boardman with Father Joseph Fata and Father Gregory Fedor officiating, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman for Edward J. Sekula, 86, of Boardman, who passed away on Monday afternoon, October 15, 2012 with his loving family by his side. Edward will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends. He was born May 23, 1926 in Youngstown the son of Andrew and Helen Gossick Sekula and was a lifelong area resident. Edward was a member of St. Luke Church, and graduated from Immaculate Conception School and then East High School in June of 1944. He entered into the United States Army in August of 1944. Edward served as a Sgt. In the 382nd Infantry Regiment 96th Division. He was wounded on Okinawa and was thereby awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with one Battle Star, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. After hostilities, he served in the Philippines until August 1946 and received an Honorable Discharge on November 5, 1946. He leaves behind to hold on to his memoires his beloved wife and high school sweetheart the former Kathryn Bebackwa, son Andrew (Roslyn) Sekula, a daughter Karen (Ronald) Shaughnessy, four granddaughters Melissa (Dr. Alex) Cooker, Andrea (Daniel) DeVito both of South Carolina, Dr. Stephanie (Dr. Ronald) Dorbish and Natalie (Eric) Saheli both of Columbus, and twelve great grandchildren Noah, Elijah and Jonah Cooker, Savannah, Mia and Gabriel DeVito, Benjamin, Alexander, Andrew and Ronald Dorbish and Samuel and Rose Saheli. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Frank and Stanley Sekula and a sister Mary DeNiro. Friends may call on Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown, with full military honors provided for Edward by the great men of the Trumbull County American Legion.
