Boardman - There will be a Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial on Monday, February 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maron Church, 1555 S. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, with Chorbishop Michael Kail officiating for Eileen (Stemp) Barkett, 95, of Boardman, who passed away peacefully late Wednesday evening February 10, 2016, with her loving family by her side. Eileen will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her smile and outgoing personality. She was born May 7, 1920 in Portsmouth, England, the daughter of Peter and Florence (Crocker) Stemp. She met and married her beloved husband Thomas J. "Tommy" Barkett during the long 6 years of World War II. He was stationed in Netley Abbey, Southampton, England where Eileen was living at the time. They were married in St. Patrick Church, which had been bombed and in ruins, but the priest had a Nissun Hut with an altar erected next to the church ruins. During the 6 year war, Eileen worked at Follands Aircraft Company, as a "Statistician" in the drawing office, where the great fighter plane the "Spitfire" was manufactured. Eileen was proud to be a part in the making of this plane, which helped win the war. On arrival to the United States in 1946, Eileen joined the British War Brides Club and met British Girls who had also married United States Soldiers and they all became very good friends. Eileen always treasured their friendships. Eileen was a proud homemaker and enjoyed doing crafts, needle work, knitting, writing, gardening, fishing and swimming, but her greatest pleasured were with her family. She always took part in all of her grandchildren's activities and she loved them dearly. She was a member of St. Maron Church and it's pray line along with being avid football and baseball fan, especially rooting on her favorite team the Cleveland Indians. Eileen leaves to cherish her precious memoires her beloved son Michael Barkett of Boardman, her daughter-in-law Lynda (Stupka) Barkett of Boardman, two grandchildren Nycole Barkett of Boardman and Michael Barkett of Poland, sister-in-law Josephine Johns of Michigan, brother-in-law John Barkett of Youngstown, and nephews Peter and Anthony and their families of England along with many other nieces and nephews of the United States. Eileen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years Thomas J. "Tommy" Barkett on September 10, 2009, her parents, her only brother Vernon Stemp who passed away at only 56 years of age and sister-in-law Joan Stemp. Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, February 14, 2016 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., where the Prayers of Incense Prayer Service will take place at 4:30 pm., friends and family may also pay respects on Monday morning, February 15, 2016 from 9:00 am until 9:45 am at St. Maron Church, 1555 S. Meridian Rd., Youngstown. Burial will take place at the Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown. In lieu of flowers material contributions may be made directly to the family so that may distribute to the charities of their choice. Eileen and her family would like to give Thanks and appreciation to Dr. Charles Wilkins and Dr. Ben Hayek for his excellent and loving care to both she and her husband Tommy, over the years along with his fine staff, who treated both of them as friends and not patients.
