Salem - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio Jr. as celebrant and the Rev. Msgr. Anthony Spinosa concelebrating the mass, preceded by a 12:10 p.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Elvera M. (Sciacca) Cackovic, 79, of Salem who was carried off by angels to her Heavenly home Tuesday morning, April 15, 2014 with her loving family by her side. Elvera will always be remembered and loved for the devotion she had for her family, her great personality and her faith in God. She was born February 9, 1935 in Palermo, Italy the daughter of Rosario and Santina (Latonia) Sciacca. In 1938 she immigrated to the United States living in New York and in 1970 moved from California to Ohio. Elvera worked for Van Nuys Telephone Company and then as a part-time cook with Salem City Schools, but above all was an excellent homemaker. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Our lady of Lebanon Shrine, its 25 Club and a former member of St. George Church in Lisbon. Elvera was an active volunteer at the Shrine helping with the Fish Dinners on Friday's, and while at St. George Church taught CCD, was a Eucharistic Minister and was active in the prayer group. She enjoyed traveling throughout the continental United States and internationally, cooking, baking, fishing, saying the Rosary, crocheting, but most of all loved taking care of and spending time with all her grandchildren. Elvera leaves her husband of over 52 years George A. Cackovic whom she married June 3, 1961, six children Elizabeth (Stephen) Medovich of Hubbard, George Joseph (Elizabeth) Cackovic of Salem, Luke Andrew (Shar) Cackovic of Wisconsin, Mary (Bruce) Cackovic-Leskey of North lima, Theresa (Steve) Theil of Salem and Michael Joseph (Barbara) Cackovic of Salem, eleven grandchildren Sarah (Dustin) Tolson, Luke and James Cackovic, Emily and Steve Theil, Gina, Rachel, Lydia, Philomena, and Elizabeth Cackovic and Olivia Leskey, two great grandchildren Evelyn and Charles Tolson and a sister Sara Carpenter of California. Elvera was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Salvatore Sciacca and two sisters Pauline Bauermester and Rose Russo. Friends may call on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Austintown.
