Austintown - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, August22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio Jr. as celebrant, preceded by a 9:10 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Ernest E. "Ernie" Barker, 81, of Austintown, who passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at his residence. Ernie will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his easy going and generous personality. He was born September 15, 1934 in Youngstown, the son of Paul and Phoebe (Dutsch) Barker and was a lifelong area resident. Ernie graduated from Chaney High School along with Barber School. He owned and operated his own barber shop for over 10 years in Youngstown and then was employed for over 20 years on the assembly line at General Motors Lordstown where he retired from in 1999. Ernie was a member of UAW Local 1112 and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica where he served as an usher at the 12:00 pm Mass along with being a former member of the Vestibule Club. Ernie proudly served his country in the United States Army during peacetime and earned the rank of SP3. He was awarded the following decorations; the Good Conduct Medal, the Marksman Medal and the 1st Class Gunner Award and received an Honorable Discharge on August 23, 1956. Ernie had many passions throughout his life. He enjoyed socializing, especially talking with family and friends whether it be at the reunions and parties or simply going out to dinner. He also enjoyed taking car rides, bowling and going to Mountaineer Casino to play games of chance. Ernie leaves behind to hold onto his precious memoires his wife of over 46 years the former Mariann Poccia whom he married October 25, 1969 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, three sisters-in-law Clotilda "Tillie" Comichisto of Girard, Justine "Jean" DeLillo of New Castle and Pauline Patrick of Poland and two brothers-in-law Nicholas A. "Nick" Poccia of Liberty and James "Jim" Guerriero of Boardman along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Besides his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by two sisters Shirley Guerriero and Edith McFall and a brother-in-law Alexandro Poccia. Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, August 21, 2016 from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home 4700 Market St., Boardman. Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, with military honors provided by the great men and women of the United States Army.
