Connecticut - There will be a Memorial Mass at noon on February 7, 2011 at the St. Elizabeth Hospital Chapel in Youngstown, Ohio and at The Holy Family Chapel in the Knights of Columbus Supreme Offices in New Haven, CT, for Reverend Father Konstantin Brown, 58, who died December 30, 2010 in his apartment in Minot, ND. Father Brown was born as Kenneth Brown in New Haven, CT on April 13, 1952 to Orville and Sophia (Grala) Brown. Father Brown was a member of the Knights of Columbus San Salvador Council # 1. He worked for the Veterans Hospital in New Haven, before taking up his studies for the priesthood at St. Josaphat's Seminary and the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, Italy. While a student in Rome, Fr. Brown made several trips to Communist Russia delivering Bibles and other religious items. He was ordained by Bishop Vasile Louis Puscus on September 25, 1988 for the Romanian Catholic Eparchy of St. George in Canton, Ohio. This Eparchy is now headed by the Most Reverend John Michael Botean, DD. Its jurisdiction covers the entire USA and portions of Canada. Fr. Brown took the name "Konstantin" upon his ordination. Father Brown served his Eparchy as Administrator of St. Mary Romanian Byzantine Catholic Parish, Boardman, OH and St. John Byzantine Catholic Parish in Hermitage, PA. He served as Administrator of Holy Trinity Byzantine Parish in New Britain, CT and St. Michael the Archangel Parish in South Hadley. MA. He served at various posts in New Jersey and in Saskatchewan, Canada.During Fr. Konstantin Brown's period in the Youngstown area he was a constant supporter of Father William Witt and his Friends of Life. He regularly attended their weekly prayer vigil in front of the now closed Abortion Center. He represented the Eparchy at the funeral of the former Princess Ileana of Romanian. As Mother Alexandria she had founded Transfiguration Monastery in Ellwood City, PA. Fr. Brown who also was a gourmet cook left a rich legacy of memories with those who knew him. Suffering declining health in recent years, he remained in retirement at the Henry Tower Apartments in Minot, ND. He had no surviving immediate family members. The funeral Mass was held at St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Parish in Minot, ND and burial then followed at the Rosehill Cemetery's St. Leo Section. Bishop Botean attending, gave the Homily. Bishop Botean will offer a memorial service (Parastas) for Fr. Brown on Sunday, February 20, 2011 following the 10:00 a.m. Divine Liturgy at St. George Cathedral in Canton. A Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Honor Guard will also be present. Fr. Brown was a Fourth Degree Member of the Commodore John Barry Assembly # 97 of New Haven, CT. 40th Day Memorial contributions in Father Brown's honor may be sent to; Romanian Catholic Diocese Eparchy of St. George in Canton 1121 44th ST NE Canton, OH 44714-1297.
