Obituary

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1125 Turin Ave., Youngstown, with Father Michael Swierz officiating for Frances D. Tomaskovich, 102, of Youngstown, who passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, October 18, 2017 with her loving family by her side.

Frances will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her humility, her generosity and smile.

She was born March 21, 1915 in Youngstown, the daughter of Italian immigrants from Naples, Italy, Angelo and Angeline (Martone) Crish and was a lifelong area resident.

Frances was a graduate of Chaney High School and worked at Tiny's Bar and Sam's Wedge Inn as a cook and retired from Youngstown State University.

Frances was a proud homemaker and a true matriarch centering her life around her family. Her family will miss all her excellent Italian cooking, especially her famous spaghetti sauce that they enjoyed for so many years at their traditional Sunday family dinners.

Frances was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church where she taught CCD and volunteered with the Friday pizza sales. She also did volunteer work at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Catholic Daughters of America, the Heart Association and Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Frances had many passions throughout her life. She was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching along with rooting on her favorite teams: The Ohio State University, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns, Indians and Cavs. Frances was an avid bowler and played in numerous leagues.

Her husband Michael S. Tomaskovich whom she married February 3, 1940 died July 30, 1962.

She leaves behind to hold onto her precious memories her children Michael A. (Jane Watt) Tomaskovich of Medina, Mary Ann (Rembrandt) Wright of Vienna, five grandchildren Kim (Bill Mayfield) Hilliard of Vienna, Anthony (Alaina) Fiorini of Girard, Michael S. Tomaskovich, Washington D.C., Claire (Johannes) Poechtrager of Medina and Emma C. Skorepa of Chicago, eight great grandchildren Nathanial Hilliard, Ethan Hilliard, Marisa Fiorini, Lia Fiorini, Marco Fiorini, Evie Poechtrager, Peter Poechtrager, Leah Poechtrager and three sisters Nancy L. Olsavsky of Boardman, Millie (Dave) Palombaro of Youngstown and Madelyn Krotky of Youngstown along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by four brothers Joseph L., Sam D., Anthony E., and Frank T. Crish and five sisters Philomena S. Babik, Ursula M. Onesko, Mary L. Maimone, Anita Mancino and Blanche C. Dobrindt.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman (new location) and again on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 9:30 am until 9:50 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Youngstown.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.

In lieu of flowers material contributions may be made in Frances name to The Hennessy Children Fund of Columbus Foundation, 1234 E. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43205.

On behalf of Frances' family, they would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the entire staff of Elmcroft of Medina for all the loving care and compassion shown to Frances during her time with them and to Hospice of Western Reserve for all their help throughout this difficult time.
