Obituary

Youngstown - There will be a Mass Christian Burial held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Lane, Youngstown, for Frank J. Magnelli Jr., 87, of Youngstown, who peacefully passed away Saturday evening, February 28, 2015. Frank will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his great smile and generosity. He was born March 18, 1927 in Youngstown, the son of Frank J. Sr. and Nelli (Zarlenga) Magnelli and was a lifelong area resident. Frank was a graduate of The Rayen High School and a member of St. Edward Church along with the Ameritol Club. He started his career as a journeyman bricklayer and later he owned and operated L & M Construction Company. Frank then continued his employment for over 30 years with the City of Youngstown. He was the Youngstown City Parks Supervisor and later became the Commissioner under which position he retired. Frank was very instrumental in all phases for the building of the structures through the Youngstown City Parks. Following his retirement Frank worked as in outside sales department for Do Cut Sales and Service in Canfield. He was also a Mahoning County Sheriff and was sworn in and deputized under the leadership of Sheriff Edward Nemeth. Frank was a proud veteran and served in the Merchant Marines as a Second Class Fireman and then was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and received an honorable discharge on July 2, 1947. His military occupation was Marine Fireman and Basic Drill Instructor serving with the 44th Training Battalion. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal for his service to his country. Frank had many passions throughout his life and he excelled in many of them. Some of his favorites were making wine, hunting and spending time in the outdoors at his camp in Kane, Pennsylvania and gardening. Frank leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories, his wife of over 66 years the former Rosemary Costantini whom he married April 3, 1948, two daughters Roseann Malara and Maryann (Thomas M.) Joseph, two granddaughters Tricia (Andrew) Young and Maria Z. Joseph, a great granddaughter Sophia M. Young and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Frank was preceded in death by a son-in-law Richard J. Malara, two sisters Margarite Fossesca and Geraldine Booth along with his best friend that was like a brother to him Marty Fields. Family and friends may call on Wednesday morning, March 4, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. all at St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Lane, Youngstown.
