BOARDMAN-Gabriel J. Delfre, 92 Boardman - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Wednesday October 26, 2016 at 10 am at St. Luke Church, for Gabriel J. Delfre, 92, of Boardman, who passed away Friday morning at his residence with his loving family by his side. The mass will be officiated by Father Gerald DeLucia, preceded by a 9:30 am prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, Boardman. Gabriel will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends. Gabriel was born on the East Side of Youngstown on March 20, 1924 the son of Joseph and Esther (Cappabianca) Delfre and was a lifelong area resident. Gabe graduated from East High School where he played football and basketball, and then attended Youngstown State University. He was a long time member of St. Luke Parish. Gabriel retired as a machinist from Wean United, also owned and operated a restaurant downtown called Uncle Giuseppe's, and did substitute teaching at Immaculate Conception School. Gabe was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His loving wife, the former Dorothy Pondillo whom he married on November 22, 1945 died on December 19, 2009 after 64 years of marriage. He will be greatly missed by his five children, Joseph Delfre, Esther Orlando and John (Rebecca) Delfre all of Boardman, Katherine Honsinger of Rochester, NY and Gabriel Delfre Jr. of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren, Anthony (Michelle) Delfre of North Royalton, Vincent Orlando of Hubbard, Gina Gordon of Boardman, DeAnn (Mac) Braddom of Cuyahoga Falls, Laura (Andrew) Lewis of Kent and Michael Honsinger of Rochester, NY; six great grandchildren, Joseph, James and Ava Delfre, Mira, Dominic and Demetrius Gordon. Besides his parents and wife, Gabriel was preceded in death by a grandson Joseph G. Delfre; two brothers Angelo and Jack Delfre and a sister Mary McGill. Family and friends may pay their respects from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 25th at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Lake Park Cemetery. On behalf of Gabriel's family they would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the staff from Hospice of the Valley for all the care and compassion that has been shown to them during this difficult time.
