Boardman - George P. Bellino, 81, of Boardman, passed away on Saturday morning, January 23, 2016. George will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for being so sociable and generous towards others along with his unforgettable smile. He was born August 31, 1934 in Youngstown, the son of Joseph and Rose (Giampetro) Bellino and was a lifelong area resident. George was a graduate of East High School where he lettered in golf along with leading the Golden Bears to a State Championship and he then continued his studies at The Ohio State University. He was a proud United States Army Veteran serving in Alaska during peace time. Upon his return from the Army after proudly serving our country George's career began as head golf professional from 1963-1975 at the Henry Stambaugh Golf course before joining Tippecanoe Country Club. In 1980, he was named Northern Ohio PGA Club Professional Player of the Year. He played in several tournaments on the regular pro tour for a number of years. Some of his most notable events are qualifying for the United States Open 3 times, the PGA 11 times, the British Open at St. Andrews in 1970, the Canadian Open in 1971, the Senior PGA 14 times and the United States Senior Open. George had many tournament victories and they included; winning the Ohio Senior Open Championship in 1987, the Erie Classic in 1976, the Youngstown Open, the Cleveland Open, the Akron Open and the Tigertown Open. He also qualified for the Ohio Challenge Cup for 15 consecutive years winning the Open Title four times and won the Northern Ohio Championship in 1968 and 1988. George was named the Senior Player of the Year in 1986, 1988 and 1997. George received the honor of being inducted into the Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame, the East High School Hall of Fame, the Northern Ohio PGA Hall of Fame and the Ohio Golf Hall of Fame, but he was also very proud of his 13 hole in ones that he accomplished throughout his career. George was a member of St. Christine Church, the Kiwanis Club on the Eastside of Youngstown, the Arco Club and the Golden Bears (East High School) Monthly Dinner Club that was held at the MVR. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his beloved wife of over 54 years the former Mary Ann Wydick whom he married on October 28, 1961, two sons Robert (Jacqueline Cunat) Bellino and Ronald (Lynley Pavkovich) Bellino both of Canfield, a daughter-in-law Lucinda Bellino of Vermont, a granddaughter Grace Michelle Bellino and a sister Mary Francis Pollifrone. Besides his parents George was preceded in death by a son Dr. Richard Bellino, three brothers Dr. Frank, Peter and Joseph Bellino and two sisters Madeline "Lena" Hrehovcik, and Isabel Bellino. Per George's request a caring cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be held at later date.
