Poland - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Dr., Boardman, with Father Michael Marcelli officiating for "George" Magner, 87, entered into eternal rest Wednesday May 14, 2014. George was born on March 7, 1927 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of Mathew Gyton Magner and Florence Boies Magner. He attended South High School in Youngstown. George was a proud veteran of both the Army and Air Force. From 1945 to 1947 he served in the Army as an MP, attending the Nuremburg Trials in Germany. In 1950 he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. George married Mary Elizabeth Nackino on October 24, 1959 sharing a lifetime of wonderful experiences. George was a successful entrepreneur. He owned and operated several businesses includingthe "Clothes Corral" in Hubbard, the "Jambar Lounge" and "Army and Navy Club"both in Youngstown. While living in Los Angeles,California he worked for the Weldex Corporationtraveling to San Salvadorforprojects. Having been an amateur boxer himselfhe was an avid fan. He would have watched boxing 24 hours a day if possible. George and his good friend BenPhillibin, along with other buddies who have since passed, were known since childhood as "The Corner Boys".In his later years Ben introduced George to water color painting whichresulted in a passion that created over 230 pieces of art. Besides his wife Mary, George is survived by his sisters Eileen McPhee of Canfield, Pat (Louis) Grimm of Largo, Florida and June Doulder of Huntington Beach, California. He also leaves his nephew Donald (Barb) Shidemantle who was his best friend and like a brother.Also left to cherish his memory issister-n-law Marge (Anthony) Napoli, brother-in-laws Gregory( Toni) Nackino, Anthony (Patricia) Nackino and James (Cecilia) Nackino along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Betty Bonham, Virginia McKinley, brother Jerome Magner and brother-in-law John Nackino. Friends may call on Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:20 a.m. all at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Dr., Boardman. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, where military honors will take place by the great men of the United States Air Force. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.
