Obituary

Mineral Ridge - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Gerald "Jerry" P. Maietta Jr. 61, of Mineral Ridge, who passed away on Monday afternoon, April 4, 2011 with his loving family by his side. Jerry will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for being so family oriented and loved above all things spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was born January 22, 1950 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of Gerald P. Sr. and Ida (Sieling) Maietta and was a lifelong area resident. Jerry graduated from Hubbard High School in 1968, the Youngstown Police Academy in 1976, and then received additional training from the Ohio State Patrol Academy. He was appointed to the Youngstown Police Department on January 7, 1976 by Chief Donald Baker and was then promoted to Detective/Sergeant in August of 1987. Jerry was a proud homicide detective for over 20 years and retired March 9, 2011. Jerry was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Youngstown, and the FOP Lodge #28. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his wife of over 37 years the former Victoria Hack whom he married on July 28, 1973, two daughters Tracy (Steve) Nase of Hartville, Ohio and Michele (Eric) Lombardo of Cranberry, Pennsylvania, five grandchildren Riley, Sofia, Henry, Grace, and Carina, a brother Frank (Wendy) Maietta and a sister Joyce Kowalski both of Hubbard. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call on Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home 4700 Market St., Boardman. In lieu of flowers material contributions may be made in Jerry's honor to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512.
