Obituary

Liberty - There will be a Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial held on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maron Church, 1555 S. Meridian, Rd., Youngstown, with Chorbishop Michael Kail officiating for Helen T. "Skippy" Tombo, 92, of Liberty, who passed away peacefully at her home Monday afternoon, July 25, 2011 with her loving family by her side. It can be said that she died from a broken heart after losing her beloved husband, Tony, on April 7, 2011. They shared and enjoyed almost 71 years of marriage. Skippy will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her intense love of family, her kind heart and her hospitality with welcoming everyone into her home. Her grandchildren and great grand-children were the joy of her life and her devotion to them defined a significant portion of their childhood memories which they will cherish forever. She was the true matriarch for her family and had a very deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was born May 28, 1919, the daughter of Domit and Theckla (Coury) Nakley and was a lifelong area resident. Helen was a 1937 graduate of the Ursuline Academy and was a member of St. Maron Church. She was a devoted and loving homemaker. During World War II she was committed to our country by helping in the war effort through her employment at The General Fireproofing Company. Helen worked with the Board of Elections for many years also serving as judge on election days. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and cooking which was truly her talent, all of which her family enjoyed and will surely miss. Her husband and love of her life Anthony T. "Tony" Tombo Sr. whom she married July 6, 1940 died April 7, 2011. Helen leaves behind to hold on to her precious memories three children, Joan (Ezio) Ferri and Kathleen (John) Garchar-Progar both of Canfield, and Anthony T. Tombo Jr. of Hubbard., ten grandchildren Frank Ferri, Michelle (Mike) Sotka, Richard (Bianca) Garchar, Carla (Gabriel) Saluan, Kate (David) Guelich, Mark (Carla) Ferri, Bradley Garchar, Joseph Ferri, Stephanie Tombo, and Anthony T . Tombo III, eleven great grandchildren Jordan, Michael, Andrew, Ethan, Joey, Allison, Alex, Madeline, Robert, Elena, Francesca, three sisters Florence Wansack and Joann Nakley both of Youngstown, Elizabeth Roccanova of New York, and a brother Thomas Nakley of Maryland and many loving nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and beloved husband she was preceded in death by four sisters, Catherine Nakley, Ann Nakley, Margaret Menaldi, Beatrice Cunning and a brother Raymond Nakley Sr. Friends may call on Friday, July 29, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where the Prayers of Incense Prayer Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, and again on Saturday July 30, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:50 a.m. at St. Maron Church, 1555 S. Meridian Rd., Youngstown. Following the Divine Liturgy, burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown. Material contributions may be made in Helen's name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512.
