Helen was born February 12, 1922 to Raymond Wolfe and Anna (Tressler) Wolfe in Ohiopyle, PA., a small farming community that decades later, would become a famous white-water rafting resort. Helen came to Youngstown, where she attended Beauty School. She was a Hairdresser at the Venetion Beauty Salon in the Mahoning Bank Building, Downtown Youngstown. It was Downtown where she met her future husband, George Joseph Malkoch, when a bus load of soldiers on leave from the Marines during World War II, were dropped off on Federal Street. Helen worked several jobs as a Waitress at The Philadelphia Tavern, cleaned houses and did childcare for Fifth Ave., Youngstown residents. She also cleaned evenings at Youngstown College, in order to help save money for a down payment on their first home in Brownlee Woods. Helen devoted her whole life to helping others. She took care of relatives, friends and neighbors when needed, especially widows. Later she would give of herself and her talents to grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored. Helen was sweet, loving and kind with a great sense of humor, which still came through at 94. Helen was legally blind for several years before her death and because she could no longer read or see TV, her companion became her Bose Radio. Radio Personality Gary Rhamy, became a good friend to her. He would play her favorite songs and then announce her name on his radio shows. Gary called her "Grandma Cookie", "Helen of Brownlee Woods" and his "Other Mother". Gary made her life happy through music and she and her family were always grateful to him. Her husband George Malkoch whom she married on January 7, 1944 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Youngstown, passed away on November 11, 2000. Helen leaves her only child, Barbara J. Evans of Boardman, her most beloved grandchildren, Brian (Michelle) Evans of Poland, Kelly (Christian) Dolan and Erin (Michael) Roberts both of Cincinnati, her precious great- grandchildren, Adam Wheeler, Brady Evans, Madison Evans, Reilly Dolan, Ryan Dolan, Eric Roberts and Emma Roberts, a niece Margaret (Tim) Van Dyke, and a great-niece Robyn Bartholomew and her son Brian Bartholomew.
