Obituary

Boardman - There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman for Herbert G. (Bert) Carmichael, 79, of Boardman, who passed away on April 28, 2012 at home in the loving arms of his family after a ten year battle with cancer. Bert will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends as wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law and friend. All whose lives he touched will cherish his memory forever. Bert was born on December 3, 1932 in Beach, North Dakota to the late Guy and Evelyn (Roo) Carmichael. He grew up in Adrian, Michigan and attended Adrian College and Toledo University. He was a United States Air Force veteran and served in the Pacific during the Korean War in air rescue as an airborne radio operator. Bert retired from RMI Company in 1993 after 30 years of service. He continued to work for another five years at Timet in Toronto, Ohio before retiring for good to spend time with family & friends and vacation in Florida every winter. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife and the true love of his life the former Betty Briggs whom he married on October 4, 1952 and they would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year, three children, Jill (Joe) Dunkel, Kay (Chuck) Farren and Matt (Kathy) Carmichael; three grandchildren, Courtney, Jessica and Shannon; brother and sister-in law, James & Norma Briggs; several nieces and nephews; and many other extended family members. Besides his parents Bert was preceded in death by brother, sister and a grandson. The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Valley for their loving care & support during the last few weeks. A special thank you goes to Blaine Snider who comforted and cared for us all when we needed it most. Friends may call on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 2:00 p.m until 2:55p.m. at the Rossi and Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market Street, Boardman. Cremation has taken place according to Bert's wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be accepted in Bert's name for the Gate Lodge at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens in Akron, Ohio or any charity of your choice.
