Brookfield - There was a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio Jr. officiating for James J. Ross, 99, of Brookfield, who passed away peacefully early Thursday morning March 26, 2015. James will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his caring, generous and simple personality. He was born March 19, 1916 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Mary (Martinelli) Ross. James grew up and lived most of his life in the Brookfield area and he then moved to Houston, Texas with his wife, for many years to be closer to their daughter. He then moved back to the Brookfield area in 1997. James was a graduate of Brookfield High School and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish (St. Vincent de Paul Church) and also attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica. He was employed for over 40 years with GATX as a welder retiring in 1980. Upon his retirement James then drove limousine throughout the Houston area for many years. James was a proud United States Army Air Corps. Veteran of World War Ii where he earned the rank of Sergeant and received on Honorable Discharge on December 25, 1945. He served with the 47th Liaison Squadron and received the following decorations, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the ETO Occupation Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars. James had many passions and talents throughout his life. He enjoyed traveling with his wife across the United States, working in his garden and making and collecting model airplanes. James was a pilot and loved to fly all over in his spare time. James fell in love with his wife the former Mary Nicastro whom he married February 7, 1943. He acted as a true husband in every way he could be during his wife's illness as he stood by her side and was her caregiver until her passing on November 2, 1997. He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved daughter Dr. Patti Jane Ross and husband Dr. Allan Katz of Houston , Texas, two sisters Betty (John) Dimoff of Poland and Rose Hoffman of Pittsburgh and numerous cousins and friends. Besides his parents and wife James was preceded in death by a sister Dorothy. Entombment took place at Crown Hill burial Park, Vienna with military honors provided by the great men of Trumbull County American Legion. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made in James name to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel, Youngstown, Ohio 44505.
