Youngstown - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christine Church, 3165 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown, with Rev. Msgr. David w. Rhodes officiating, for James M. Scanlon, 92, of Youngstown, who passed away on Sunday afternoon, May 1, 2011 after a brief illness with his loving family by his side. James now joins in Heaven his beloved son James Robert Scanlon who passed away in 2002. James will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends. He was born January 20, 1919 in Youngstown the son of James and Emma (Weber) Scanlon. Jim was a proud United States Army Veteran of World War II where he received the following decorations and citations; the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal, and Label Button. Following his United States Army service, he graduated from Youngstown State University and began a long career working for Commercial Shearing and Stamping Company in Youngstown. Jim and his family had opportunities to travel as he was named manager of the company's Salt Lake City, Utah plant, and later, as manager of manufacturing of the Diekirch, Luxembourg operation in Europe. Returning to Youngstown, James was then named Vice President of Production until his retirement. Jim and his wife Alice then made the move to Clearwater, Florida where they enjoyed many wonderful years before returning home to Youngstown to be near family. Throughout his life, James served as a leader of many causes. To name a few, he was president of the Serra Club in Salt Lake City, also served as past president of the Easter Seal Society for Mahoning County, chaired a United Way Campaign and served as co-chair for two prior campaigns. He also helped lead fundraising campaigns for the Boy Scouts of America. James leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his wife of over 67 years the former Alice Simpson, a daughter Alicia Jane Scanlon of Columbus, a daughter-in-law Judy Scanlon of Boardman, six grandchildren Allyson (Stuart Hunter) Morena of Columbus, Robert Morena of Champaign, Illinois, Frank (Kelly) Buffano, of Youngstown, Marla (Patrick) Guerrieri of Boardman, Katie-Neil (Steve) O'Connell of West Palm Beach, Florida, and James Robert Scanlon Jr. of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, seven great grandchildren Cameron, Jonah, Isabella, Gabriella, Patrick, Logan and Tyler, a brother Tom (Mary) Scanlon of Poland, and two sisters Elaine Kelley of Youngstown and Judy Penzo of Banning, California. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son James Robert Scanlon, a brother Jack Scanlon, and five sisters LaVerne Schneider, Marie Andrews, Phyllis Stenger, Betty Jo Anderson, and Joretta Linsey. Friends may call on Friday morning, May 6, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m.at St. Christine Church, 3165 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.
