Canfield - Jerry Kohout, 86 of Canfield, is together again with his wife Sharon of 60 years. He passed away peacefully on Oct. 22, 2026.
Jerry was born on January 8, 1940, in Cleveland, the son to Barbara and Henry Kohout. He was a proud graduate of Benedictine High School.
Following high school Jerry enlisted in the United Stars Navy and found himself assigned to the USS Macon. It was during this time his passion for photography began, and he soon found himself as an official navy photographer. His most memorable photo was featured and selected as the cover shot in the Navy News Magazine. The title read “Heavy Cruiser USS Macon inches through St Lambert Lock at the formal opening of St. Lawrence Seaway”. Following his enlistment in the navy, Jerry spent time as a photographer and then entered the world of sales and management.
Jerry was best known by those who loved him as the man behind the camera. Whatever the occasion or celebration, Jerry could be counted on to capture the moments with his camera and make them last for a lifetime through his gift of photography. He graciously took photos and videos of many of the Boardman High School athletes over a span of 15 years. He had both the eye and talent to capture the photos and to tell a story with them. In 2010, Jerry was inducted to the Boardman High School Hall of Fame as a contributor. He was actively involved as a Booster, President of the Gridiron Club, and most famously for voluntarily videotaping Spartan football games at every level of competition, from eighth grade to varsity. Besides filming the games , he would often edit and compile highlight tapes of individual performances, season highlights, and other special events. Many people in the Boardman community- coaches included- came to rely on Jerry’s work during those years.
In addition to his love of capturing memories, he was passionate about baseball. He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan for over 80 years. He was a proud member and teammate of the Youngstown Oldtimers Baseball Team.
In 1960 he married the love of his life, and best friend, Sharon Mack Kohout. He had loved her from the first grade. They celebrated 60 years of marriage until Sharon’s passing in 2022.
He leaves behind to hold onto his precious memory his four children David (Susie) Kohout of Boardman, Lori (Tod) Burkert of Florida, Barbara Fazzini of Boardman and Jeff (Tracy) Kohout of Canfield, six grandchildren David (Sara) Burkert, Courtney (Frank) Leon, David (Hanna) Kohout, Jenna (Logan) Hamsley, Camryn Kohout and Caden Kohout . Five great-grandchildren, Stryker and Arabella Hamsley and Willow ,Aspen and Roman Kohout. In addition, he also leaves to hold his memory nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his loving wife Sharon, he was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Hank and Lad as well as his sisters Martha and Lilian, grandson Daniel Fazzini and Son-in-Law Steve Fazzini.
Family and friends may pay their respects to Jerry on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 2:00 pm until 2:50 p.m. at Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.
