Liberty - There will be a funeral service held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, with Father Thomas Constantine officiating for Johanna Geordan Thomas. After a brief illness, Johanna passed away with her family and friends at her side, in the home of Connie and John Czoka, her best friends, who had been her caregivers during this time. Johanna will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends. She was born November 3, 1932 in Youngstown the daughter of John and Bertha (Hriefko) Geordan. Johanna graduated in 1951 from South High School, so this year would have been her 60th reunion. At South High School she enjoyed her classes and many friends. During her school years, Johanna was active in the youth activities of St. John's Greek Orthodox Church, where she sang in the choir, and later taught Sunday school. She also enjoyed ballet and playing the piano in her spare time. Johanna attended Youngstown College and worked at Livingston's Women's Apparel in the lingerie department, consolidated in the toy department, and then became the assistant manager of her father's candy store, Geordan's Confectionary. Johanna was an exceptional baker and was famous for her Kolachi, Greek Koulouri and other marvelous delicacies, which would fill her dining tables during the holidays. She generously shared those wonderful treats with friends and family across the country. Johanna leaves behind two sisters Veneta Geordan Tareshawty of Canfield and Genevieve (Peter) Geordan Angelides of Fremont, California, nephew Mark (Sharon) Tareshawty and a niece Elise Tareshawty both of Canfield, a nephew and godson Philip (Katie) Angelides of Naperville, Illinois, a niece Dr. Petrina (Dr. Mark) Angelides Lewis of Sammamish, Washington, 5 great nephews, 3 great nieces, her cousins Dr. A. William (Camella) Geordan of Liberty, and Venetta Geordan Cronin of Dallas, Texas, and her dear best friends Connie (John) Czoka of Liberty. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Eliseo Tareshawty and her husband of 38 years, Ralph Thomas, who passed away on June 25, 2011 after a prolonged illness. She was his loving and devoted caregiver during those years. Friends may call on Friday, August 26, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. until 9:50 a.m. all at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.
