John T. Abbas Sr., 93, of Youngstown, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, September 11th, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Youngstown, Ohio on July 28th, 1923 being the youngest child of ten children of Thomas and Zaine Abbas. Before he graduated from high school, John worked in Utah in the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corps.) and thereafter served in the U.S. Air Force in WWII stationed in Saipan, where he earned a "Purple Heart". He completed his high school education at East H.S. after returning from the war and then pursued a degree in teaching at Youngstown State University. But as life would have it he met the love of his life and on April 25th, 1959 married Marie Ann (Dohar) Abbas. They had 57 beautiful years together and eight children. John worked at General Fireproofing for 38 years and at Acme Music. He had endless interest revolving around Family and Church. He was a master fisherman, avid hunter, gardener, wine maker and cook who was most well-known for his famous "Clam Sauce" that he made for St. Maron's Youth Organization's Spaghetti Dinners. He was also member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. John is survived by his wife, Marie (Dohar) Abbas, and his 8 children: John Abbas Jr., Christina Glotfelter (Craig) and children Paul (Misty), Angela and Maria; Thomas Abbas (Monique) and children Giana and Aviana; Denise Abbas, Mirek Kukielka and children Raymond Simon, Isaac Simon, Isabella Simon and Joseph Simon; Zina Abbas-Hoeferlin and children Michael, Rachel and George; Michele Hochendoner (Jefferey) and children Jakob, Madalyn and Noah; Gregory Abbas and Scott Johnson; Peter Abbas and children Samuel and Kayla. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Zaine Abbas and siblings Abbey Thomas, Minnie Michael, Molly Wolbert, Mabel Basile, Adelaide Abbas, Abla Abbas, Joseph Abbas, Stella Abbas and Josephine Abbas. Services will be held at Rossi-Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market, where family and friends can call Wednesday from 4-7 and Thursday at St. Maron's Church from 9:00-9:45 before a burial mass at 10:00 a.m.
