Obituary

Boardman - There will be a funeral service held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, with Pastor Wayne Niemi officiating for John W. "Herk" "Herky" Kosola, 78, of Boardman, who passed Monday morning, November 26, 2012. Herk will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his passion for golf and his great personality. He was born February 22, 1934 in Youngstown, the son of William Frank and Martha (Koch) Kosola and was a lifelong area resident. Herk started his work career on the railroad, and then was employed with the Youngstown Water Department. He then worked as a salesman holding various positions the one he enjoyed most was being a realtor, then with the Board of Elections, then as a Common Courts Process Server, and lastly with the Hospital Associations Gamma Med. He was of the Baptist Faith. Herk was a 1952 graduate of East High School. After graduation he furthered his education by graduating from the Lewis Weinberger & Hill Beauty School where he then became a teacher for them. He was a Little League Coach and played baseball for the Sons of Italy. Herk loved and had a passion for the game of golf and made a Hole In One in 1994 on the 14th hole at Yankee Run Golf Course which was 184 yards par 3. Herk was a former member of Fonderlac Country Club and the Elks Club and was a current member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Boulevard Golf League and YMCA Golf League (Y League). He leaves behind to hold on to his memories four children Kenneth W. Kosola of Arizona, Keith Allen Kosola of Wyoming, Karen Kosola of Wellsville and Kristen (George) Govantes of Texas, five grandchildren Lana (Tom) Irwin, Kaley (FiancAC. Alex Parrey) Govantes, Anthony, Allison and Ethan Govantes, two great grandchildren Camden and Andie, a brother David Koch (Jeannette) Kosola of Washington, two nieces Susan (Michael) Thornton and Diane Donahue, a nephew David R Kosola, a great niece Briana and his extended family Judge Scott (Sharon) Krichbaum and their sons Zack and Brian "Homes" Krichbaum. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sons Johnny Kirk Kosola and Brian Kyle Kosola and a sister M. Susan Hill. Friends may call on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:50 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.
