Obituary

Girard - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio Jr. as celebrant, preceded by a 9:00 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for John "Jack" Mirone, 80, of Girard, who passed away Friday evening July 25, 2014 with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Jack will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his outgoing and giving personality, big smile and sense of humor. He was born June 29, 1934 in Youngstown, the son of Giuseppi and Letetia (Cervello) Mirone and was a lifelong area resident. Jack was a 1953 graduate of East High School and started as a journeyman for 5 years before becoming a plumber. He was employed through the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 87 and then retired in 1997 from Packard Electric. Jack served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of Eagle Creek Flying Club, a hobby which he enjoyed for many years as being a pilot along with being an avid bowler. Jack was a proud and active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica where he was a volunteer for the Spaghetti Dinner and the Festival, was a member of the Vestibule Club, an usher at the Saturday 5:00 p.m. Masses, assisted with carrying of the bread for the St. Anthony Feast Day Mass, and was known as the "waterman" at the Festival for setting up all the plumbing for over 15 years. Jack leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his beloved wife of over 57 years the former Elizabeth "Liz" Skarote whom he married August 11, 1956, two sons Dr. Paul (Priscila) Mirone of Erie, Pennsylvania and Dr. Gary (Rolande) Mirone of Vineland, New jersey, three grandchildren Ellis Paul, Dynara DeLenn and Luca John Mirone and a brother Charles (JoAnn) Mirone of New Middletown. Besides his parents Jack was preceded in death by two brothers Joseph and Pete Mirone and two sisters Phyllis Saxon and Joan Mirone. Friends may call on Friday, August 1, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.
