Austintown - There will a prayer service held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Christine Church celebrated by Fr. Christopher Cicero, for John Joseph Parella, 94, of Austintown, who passed away Saturday morning at Clairbridge Brookdale Senior Living. John will always be remembered and loved his family and friends. John was born May 4, 1917 in Youngstown a son of James and Grace Tataro Parella, and was an area resident all of his life. He attended East High School and when he was younger worked as a taxi and bus driver in Downtown Youngstown. He later learned the trade of a cement finisher and became part owner of Parella-Panunzio Construction Company where he worked until retirement in 1986. He was a long time parishioner of St. Christine Church. He was on the Fruit Street Reunion committee and a member of the Ohio Plasterer's and Cement Mason's Local #176. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and traveling with his wife after retirement especially for Sunday drives. His wife the former Virginia Lewis whom he married August 15, 1936 passed away October 20, 2003 after celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary. He will be remembered and loved by his son, Gary (Debby) Parella of New Middletown; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Parella of San Jose, CA, sister, Rose Esposito of Youngstown, a brother Rudy Parella of Boardman; seven grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, John and Billy Parella, two brothers, William and Robert Parella and a sister, Mary Conti. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Rossi & Santucci, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.
